Wishes to all and an update....

Merry belated Christmas to all on my flist and my deepest wishes for a safe and healthy new year to you and your families!

It has been an incredible year, filled with some professional highs and some personal lows. This has been my first year of teaching after returning to uni as a mature age student. In short, I have had the best year of my life when it comes to working. I LOVE teaching - the kids are so full of fun, new ideas and amazing potential and to be part of their lives is truly humbling.

However, as many of you know, on the home front, it has probably been one of the worst years of my life, but with hope building around every corner. Late last year my (then) 11 year old daughter had a bleed to the brain from a malformation of her blood vessels (in short, there was high pressure blood pumping into a low pressure area, causing a rupture, thus the bleed). Due to the site of the bleed she couldn't have an operation as it was deemed too dangerous, so at the beginning of this year we had to have some radiation to try and reduce the size of the AVM (the site of the bleed). 6 months later I posted in my journal that although the AVM had yet to shrink, the feeding vessels into that site were showing signs of reduction.

Having just had a follow up MRI this month we have now found out that the AVM itself has shrunk by 2mm's!!! That doesn't sound like much, but it is a very hopeful sign according to my daughter's doctors (who by the way, is the same team of surgeons who separated the conjoined twins Trishna and Krishna - makes you feel you're in safe hands and very blessed to be living in Melbourne near the world renowned Royal Children's Hosptial).

So, once again I want to put out my thanks for those who thought of and prayed for us over the past 12 months or so. Even though I've never met any of you face to face, it means a lot to me to have people on the other side of the world sharing their lives with me. And also sharing your fic with me (!!!)- as you know I try to comment on all that I read as just a small thank you for making me smile and allowing me to get caught up in another world when life in this one seems too hard.

Christmas and New Years blessings to you all.
Love and thanks,
from Kerryn

So happy to hear of your professional fulfillment, Kerryn. Working with kids is not easy but I'm so glad to hear you love it. Yay for great teachers! Happier still to hear about the shrinking of your daughter's AVM! That's great news! :) My best wishes to you and your family for a happy, safe, healthy and healthier new year. ♥
